According to the Bible, heaven is an awesome place: streets of gold, crystal sea, banquet table filled with food, music and choirs (and rock bands!), mansions built personally for each follower of Jesus, precious stones everywhere, absence of conflict, total peace. But all of that is nothing compared to this…

Heaven is living with God. Revelation 21:3 says, “I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.’”

Finally God has His complete way. His will and His way are preeminent. It’s not my will and desires. It’s not your will and desires that are put into play in heaven. It’s 100% God’s will that functions in heaven.

And we might get excited and think heaven will be awesome because of the streets of gold & crystal sea & banquet table full of food, etc. But what makes heaven awesome is not “what” will be there, but “who” will be there. Revelation 21:3 says, “God is WITH men”, “God will live WITH them”, and “God himself will be WITH them.”

It’s a brand new thing, a brand new relationship, a brand new sense of God’s presence that we have never had and cannot fully comprehend.

Heaven is pain free. Revelation 21:4 says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

The first thing God is going to do is not answer all our silly questions that we all have. The first thing God will do? He is going to touch the core of our deepest hurt and fears. He is going to remove every fear, every anxiety, every pain.” Every tear of sadness and heartbreak.  Every tear of grief and despair.  Every tear of loneliness. It all will be forever gone!

In heaven, you will never have to stand next to a hospital bed of a child or parent or friend who is sick and will not get better. You will never get another phone call saying there has been a terrible accident. You will never go to another funeral. You will never hurt again. God will do away with pain, sorrow, depression, loneliness, cancer. Every kind of sickness and disease that you could think of will be forever gone!

This is why we need to put our hope in what is in our future and not in the here and now! My little piece of heaven on earth might be nice, but it is full of death, sorrow, disease, sickness,  disappointment, loneliness. If I put my hope in this life, I have cut myself short of something unimaginable still to come.

There is coming a day, for all who follow Jesus, when life will be living with God and pain free …life that is more than you or I could ever imagine in this life.

The critical question is … will you be there when your life on this earth is over? I know I will. Will you?
