This is one of my favorite verses. I memorized this verse 37 years ago and it has been a key verse in my life since. However, with the convictions God is putting on my heart about living a healthier life, I am realizing I have applied this verse to various areas of my life - especially my ministry, BUT I have not applied it to keeping my body in a healthy condition. As I think about it, this verse applies to ALL areas of my life, not just some.
I have tried to lose weight and be more diligent in exercising in the past, but it seems to last a few weeks (or less) and then I revert back to my recliner and DQ Blizzards! For the 20 years I was on the fire department, that was some motivation to stay healthy, but since retiring from that ... nada. And my metabolism at my age is pretty low which does not help.
So where will consistent, never-ending motivation and power come from? It has to come from a consistent, never-ending source ... God. If I am going to be successful in living a healthier life, it is a non-negotiable that I build a healthier life on God's power coming from the Holy Spirit living in me and sustaining me through God's Word. Therefore, it is a non-negotiable to lose weight, be more consistent in getting exercise, eating right, getting enough rest - that I spend DAILY time alone with God reading and studying His Word. THAT is where my power and motivation and success will come from. Blogging about my journey and what God is teaching me is a by-product of that.
Joshua 1:8 says I need to be doing three specific things ... 1) talk about God's Word; 2) meditate on God's Word; and 3) obey God's Word. I can't do any of those if I'm not reading and studying God's Word daily... "day and night".
So, the power and motivation and success comes not from the latest diet book or diet plan (as good and profitable as some of them may be).... the power and motivation and success comes from talking about God's Word, meditating on God's Word, and obeying God's Word. This is one of the big differences I'm finding with The Daniel Plan compared to other "plans". It starts out with and places HUGE emphasis on faith in God and His Word as a key to living a healthier life. Faith + Food + Fitness + Focus + Friends = a healthier life.
